Big Ten Bowl Projections (Week 12)

Of the three teams vying for the Big Ten Rose Bowl slot, only one wants Ohio State to lose this weekend. While in a 3-way tie for the Big Ten Championship, the selection goes to the highest ranked team in the BCS poll which is currently Wisconsin. If Ohio State were to lose, the tie-breaker goes to head-to-head games, where Michigan State owns the win over Wisconsin. In other words, barring an upset of MSU, if Ohio State loses MSU is in.

At the same time if Ohio State puts up a strong win against Iowa, this could be what pushes them past Wisconsin in the BCS polls. Wisconsin would likely end up as an at-large selection, but with 2 mid-major teams trying to take those slots, the availability will be tight.

Here's my Big Ten projections rolled up going in to week 12 games:

#1 Ohio State - Rose Bowl
#2 Wisconsin - BCS game with an at-large bid
#3 Michigan State - Capital One Bowl
#4 Northwestern - Outback Bowl
#5 Iowa - Gator Bowl
#6 Penn State - Insight Bowl
#7 Michigan - Texas Bowl
#8 Illinois - TicketCity Bowl

  1. Yes... I could see Ohio St sneaking past Wisconsin.... because the whole BCS is flawed to begin with and dare I say corrupt.
It's a fact that they manipulate the data to begin with.
The BCS will not allow Boise St or TCU (or both) to play in the championship...we all know that.

A simple Top 8 team playoff will fix this....almost.

  2. Your prediction is absurd. If all 3 win in the big 10 then Wisconsin is in the Rose Bowl.

  3. No, "if all 3 win in the big 10 then Wisconsin is in," if they're the highest ranked in the BCS poll. Ohio State still has an opportunity to pass them in the in BCS rankings. Wisconsin is only 1 spot above Ohio State in the BCS rankings, and could get more credit in the polls for a win over Michigan than a Wisconsin a win over Northwestern.
